Dr. Dean Elhag, MD, is a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician and the President of the HLRCC Foundation. He is currently completing his Hematology and Oncology fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He possesses a diverse educational background with a degree in chemical engineering from UCSD. Dr. Elhag’s unwavering dedication lies in his passion to assist individuals battling cancer. As the President of the HLRCC Foundation, it is his personal mission to raise awareness, support research, and advocate for patients suffering from HLRCC.

Jason DiCola is a passionate educator and advocate for patients and family members affected by HLRCC. After being diagnosed in 2021, he was immediately struck with gratitude, thanks to all the support and knowledge he found within this amazing patient community. This, in turn, has inspired him to dedicate his time and talents in ways that help further the cause, ultimately culminating in joining the board of the HLRCC Foundation. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience from Temple University, and currently works as an instructor of Anatomy and Physiology at Montgomery County Community College in Pennsylvania.

Josh Mann is passionate about supporting those dealing with hereditary cancers. In his role as the Director of Health of the VHL Alliance, Josh provides patient/caregiver support, works with researchers and medical professionals, and serves as the Principal Investigator for the MyVHL: Patient Natural History Study. He earned his Masters of Public Health degree in Health Care Policy and Management from New York Medical College and his Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration and Health Care Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Financial Management of Nonprofits from Cornell University. He has devoted his career to improving the patient experience through a variety of endeavors including entrepreneurial pursuits, nonprofit work, and collaborating with leaders in the field.

Dr. Antony Horton currently serves on the Board of Directors of the HLRCC Foundation, providing advice on HLRCC related medical and scientific issues. Dr. Horton gained his Ph.D. at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland UK, where his work focused on the developing peripheral nervous system. Following this, Dr. Horton has worked in the non-profit sector at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) and the International Rett Syndrome Foundation. He has been a member of the HLRCC Family Alliance and VHL UK/Ireland boards of trustees since 2012, when a close family member was diagnosed with Stage 4 papillary renal cell cancer due to HLRCC. 

Our Mission:

The HLRCC Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to raising awareness about HLRCC (Hereditary Leiomyomatosis and Renal Cell Cancer) within the general public and medical community.  The Foundation actively supports and promotes research efforts to advance scientific and medical knowledge of HLRCC that will in turn lead to better treatments for those afflicted with HLRCC, kidney cancer and other associated manifestations of the disease. In addition, the HLRCC Foundation focuses on amplifying the voices of HLRCC patients and their families, advocating for their needs and rights, and fostering a supportive community to ensure these individuals and families receive the care and resources they require.
